The City of Palm Springs is enjoying the advantages of clean, carbon free power at competitive rates as active members of Desert Community Energy.  DCE is the community-based, locally controlled electricity provider serving Palm Springs.

As part of our commitment to sustainability and saving the planet, Palm Springs offers a 100% carbon free power as the default option for the community.  The carbon free power renewable sources include solar, wind, and geothermal.  In addition, it includes large hydroelectric, which is considered carbon free but not renewable.

By enrolling the entire City of Palm Springs at 100% carbon-free, the city has reduced its carbon footprint by over 15,000 metric tons each month. No single action by the City of Palm Springs could have reduced emissions this much. It would be like removing over 25,000 cars from the road for a year!

The carbon free plan is one of the best ways the community can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, it is slightly more expensive when compared to Southern California Edison’s best rate. Residents can choose to opt out of and keep SCE as your provider.

Palm Springs joined DCE because they wanted to provide a local choice for cleaner renewable electricity at competitive prices. Programs similar to this have been working throughout the state for years, offering a choice and making a positive impact on our environment. SCE will continue to deliver, maintain and service the electricity. Revenues from DCE are reinvested into our own communities, creating jobs and more local renewable resources while helping reduce our carbon footprint.
