What’s in the Name?

Ernest Coffee was named after Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt.  He, better known by his pseudonym Donn Beach, was a legendary American entrepreneur and restaurateur who is considered the founding father of the tiki bar culture. In 1933, Gantt opened his first Polynesian-themed bar, Don’s Beachcomber Café, in Hollywood, California. The bar featured innovative tropical cocktails, elaborate décor, and an immersive island-inspired ambiance. It quickly became a sensation, attracting celebrities, socialites, and curious patrons alike. This establishment marked the beginning of what would later become known as the tiki bar phenomenon.
