Featured artist David Fairrington will be exhibiting portraits from his RED KIMONO II PROJECT at the Desert Art Center, opening on Friday, Dec 7th and running through the weekend. The opening also features DAC’s Winter Show, a new exhibit of its juried members running through January. The Red Kimono II Project highlights the LGBTQ community, with Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon and Councilwoman Christy Holstege among those included. Earlier, Fairrington painted a series of women called Red Kimono I Project. “The Red Kimono concept allows each person to make a statement about how they want to be seen,” says Fairrington. “The Red Kimono represents how we are all cloaked in the same cloth of humanity.” Fairrington is a well-known portrait artist of celebrities, and was selected as an artist which officials in the Pentagon and government can select for their official portrait. He served as an Army Combat Artist in Vietnam, created movie posters for Hollywood, and has been named a Master Artist by International Artist magazine.
