I never thought I’d find myself 20 feet in the air, clutching narrow handholds, every muscle in my arms screaming from the weight of supporting my entire body as my feet struggled to stay anchored on bumpy ledges. Eventually the battle became too much, and I let go, falling backwards first sharply, then as my rope caught, I was gently lowered to the floor.

Gnarled fingers of a Joshua tree scrape at the sky, casting twisted shadow-stripes across the sand. Its fat branches provide the only smidges of shade within view so a group of hikers, including me, is gathered under its canopy, sipping water.

Golf in the Canadian prairies is a fickle sport. You need to be prepared for rain, sleet, and yes even snow has fallen in the already short summer golf season. The amount of time we get to play can be far too short, but fortunately there’s a way to get your golf in during winter, and for you to get out of the snowy cold, too.
