Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism announced today the launch of its official international account on WeChat, leveraging China’s most important digital communications platform to raise awareness of Palm Springs as a premiere destination for Chinese travelers. With a 93 percent download rate among Chinese smartphone users, WeChat goes beyond the function of a simple messaging app; it acts as an ecosystem within itself that includes e-commerce, point-of-sale integration, customer service, and complete social engagement capabilities.
The Bureau of Tourism is active on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest, and by joining the WeChat platform, Palm Springs now has the additional opportunity to engage with 962 million monthly active users. This decision to engage with the Chinese audience on WeChat in Mandarin demonstrates Palm Springs California’s commitment to identify and best serve the needs of their Chinese visitors and take the lead in the growing trend of Chinese visitors to the sunny destination.

In 2016, Los Angeles became the first city within the United States to welcome more than 1 million travelers from China, bumping the Chinese market to California’s #1 overseas and fastest growing market. In addition, China is also the fastest growing international market for Palm Springs.
