Home to one of the largest concentrations of mid-century modern architecture in the country, thousands of design buffs and architecture fans will be heading to Palm Springs, California for Modernism Week, a 10-day event slated for February 16 – 26, 2011. Over seventy events will be held including architecture tours, films and lectures, art exhibitions, swanky parties and a new interior design tour of mid-century modern homes. Modernism Week Highlights:
- Avid modernism collectors and dealers will find vintage treasurers and retro gems at the Modernism Show at Palm Springs Convention Center.
- Cruise in an open-air double-decker bus for daily architecture tours to learn about desert modernism and the exteriors of local architecture.
- The popular Frey II House Tours give aficionados a rare opportunity to see the residence of modernist architect Albert Frey.
- Notable local architect will be honored at a special exhibit, “Steel and Shade: The Architecture of Donald Wexler” at the Palm Springs Art Museum.
- See where Frank Sinatra’s 1947 mid-century marvel and the infamous grand piano shaped pool by taking a rare tour of Sinatra’s Twin Palms Estate designed E. Stewart Williams.
- Discover the key examples of mid-century modern architecture and interior design on a Home Tour including the Edris House and an Alexander Twin Palms Butterfly home.
