For show-stopping Holiday gifts, don’t miss these two fabulous finds. If you’re into art – you can transform favorite photos into hip Andy Warhol-style pop-art portraits at The Wright Image (www.thewrightimagegallery.com) specialty gallery. How cool is that?  And it gets better.

The Wright Image can create custom gift wrapping paper from photos! Just picture it – your own personalized wrapping paper. Sure to trump even the priciest store-bought wraps and bags. They also make custom photo wallpaper and fabric art. And if you have your own idea – simply ask. “We created paper dolls of a woman complete with some of the outfits she wore when she was a model,” co-owner Tim Clark told me. Turn-around time for custom orders is three to four business days.

You’ll also find ready-to-buy classic Warhol Marilyn Monroe, Liechtenstein art and holiday décor. Located in downtown, on East Taquitz Canyon Way, The Wright Image is as unique as Palm Springs. In addition to being an art gallery, print shop and holiday boutique, it’s an award-winning interior design firm. Clark is a general contractor and co-owner Daniel Wright is an interior designer – renowned for their mid-century modern architectural restorations.  No wonder it’s amazing.

What’s in a name? For people who love heritage, you’ll win holiday applause with gifts from the Your Family Name (www.yourfamilynameorigin.com) boutique in downtown Palm Springs. It’s one of the few spots where you can research family crests and coats of arms – and customize gifts and apparel to match. “We have a book at the front of the store with two million names in it – 75 percent of the names have a coat of arms,” explains long time Palm Springs resident and shop owner Charles Dunn.

“Recipients love these name gifts! It’s not a typical gift at all. It’s tremendously creative and unique and very personal at the same time,” he enthused. From plaques to stemware, baseball caps to golf and t-shirts, tea towels, golf club head covers and hand-painted mail boxes – Your Family Name has gifts galore to be customized with a family crest and coast of arms. “The Celebration Scroll is the top seller,” said Charles. “Framed or unframed, it’s a beautiful 11” X 17” inch scroll featuring the name, the Coat of Arms and history of the name.” Printed gifts can be made instantly. Allow two weeks for the customized gifts, he cautioned.

Charles opened Your Family Name with partner Robert Piepho in 2005. “I thought it would make a good retirement business,” he said. Seems he was right. “We get pretty busy during the holidays.” Oh – and you don’t need an address to find it – just look for the life-size suit of armor on Palm Canyon Drive.
