Cool City for Art Lovers

Palm Springs joins San Francisco, Seattle and Boston along with six other U.S. cities as “The 10 Coolest Cities for Art Lovers in the USA,” according to a blog by Eventbrite, an online event service. Palm Springs is listed #1 and is described as a place for year-round warm weather to enjoy some of the best art outdoors.

To celebrate the booming art scene in Palm Springs, below is a list of attractions, special exhibits and upcoming summer art events.

Poolside Art Workshops and Music at Ace Hotel & Swim Club Palm Springs. This annual weekend is scheduled for July 18-20, 2014 featuring artist workshops, DJs and bands curated by School Night Los Angeles.

The Saguaro Palm Springs partners with Palm Springs Art Museum’s Artists Council every month to feature new works from two artists near the hotel lobby.

A chalet-inspired haunt called Bar hosts a monthly ART bar event where the creative community can interact outside a gallery setting.

The Backstreet Art District hosts an Art Walk the first Wednesday of every month from 6-9 p.m. for visitors to meet and greet local artists and stroll through the galleries

Every Thursday night, Villagefest attracts thousands of visitors and locals to downtown Palm Springs to browse more than 200 booths featuring art, handcrafted items and unique food.

Palm Springs Art Museum has an art collection that rivals urban metropolitan museums. The museum has free admission every Thursday evening from 4-8 p.m., and every second Sunday of each month. The museum will be closed in August and reopens September 9.

A variety of art galleries and craft boutiques are tucked along the palm tree lined streets in downtown, uptown design district and south Palm Springs.

The Desert Art Center features an art gallery, hosts art classes, plans plein art paint-outs and “meet the artists” receptions.
