The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival – happening over two upcoming weekends, April 11th to 13th and April 18th to 20th – sold out all of its tickets online this year in less than three hours!

Over 90,000 people are expected to attend this year’s pop/rock/indie/hip-hop concert extravaganza called “Coachella,” filling Indio’s polo grounds about a half-hour south of Palm Springs. This year’s buzz is all about the reunion of the band OutKast as the main headliner, as well as headliners Muse and Arcade Fire. In all, over 150 musical acts will perform at this year’s Coachella.

If you don’t know, Coachella is considered the 21st Century’s first important music festival. The Coachella music festival burst on the scene in 1999 with a remarkable 25,000 showing up to rock with Rage Against The Machine, Beck, Morrissey, and other artists. Since then, names like big names from Madonna, Jay-Z, Carrie Underwood, and Paul McCartney have all stepped on to Coachella’s stages.

By 2012, Coachella was so popular it had to expand to two full weekends with more stages added. That same year Goldenvoice, the organizer of Coachella and its sister country music festival Stagecoach, secured a $30 million-plus purchase of 280 additional acres adjoining the polo grounds where the concerts are held – and permission to hold up to five events per year.

But all the movement isn’t just in Indio: Goldenvoice has gone into partnership with the new Hard Rock Hotel in downtown Palm Springs to organize events, and Goldenvoice is involved with Splash House - a pool & music festival scheduled June 13-15, 2014 at three hotels.

In the meantime, if you couldn’t get their hands on the Coachella music festival’s scarce tickets, don’t worry - you can still rock out in Palm Springs! The town takes on a hipster carnival atmosphere with pool parties, DJ events, and live bands electrifying Palm Springs hotels and its downtown during and between the main Coachella weekends:

Wednesday April 16th, 5 PM:

Tachevah, A Palm Springs Block Party

The Skinny: In 2013, this free open-air concert and public block party co-produced by Goldenvoice debuted between the two weekends of Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival. Stages are set up in downtown Palm Springs, roads are blocked off, and the party included beer gardens, vendor booths, and emerging local bands selected from online music video votes.

The Music:

Last year’s inaugural Tachevah concert was headlined by Coachella performers Passion Pit, and over 6,500 showed up for the outdoor concert. The L.A. indie band Fitz and the Tantrums was recently confirmed as Tachevah’s headliner, and this year’s Tachevah is expected to attract at least 10,000 people.
