This Presidents’ Day Weekend is expected to see nearly 400,000 visitors to the Coachella Valley, doubling the number of 400,000 or so permanent residents in the area. Wisely capitalizing on the popularity of the weekend – and the fact that more than 10,000 visitors will be in Palm Springs for the start of Modernism Week – the inaugural Palm Springs Art Fair will debut on Thursday, February 16th from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
In this its first year, the Palm Springs Art Fair will focus on post-war and contemporary art, with the desert’s largest and widest art selection ever – and poised to become a major art fair in the state. Over $100 million in art will be for sale, with 2,000 works of art showcased by 50 renowned galleries from around the world. The fair is organized by the Hamptons Expo Group, one of the fastest-growing fine art fair organizers in the U.S., responsible for producing ArtAspen, ArtHamptons, the San Francisco Fine Art Fair, and the Houston Fine Art Fair.
The Palm Springs Art Fair takes place from Feb. 17-19, and its opening night on Feb. 16th will see local and visiting art aficionados getting a head start on acquiring the works of art for sale, while enjoying wine and hors d’oeuvres and the chance to meet art world luminaries. The evening will also see a silent auction to benefit the Palm Springs Art Museum, and also this evening, the fair’s first annual Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to multimedia artist Judy Chicago.
Tickets for the opening night event are $100 and include entry into the preview party and a special three-day pass for the fair. To purchase tickets for this event, click here or call 631-283-5505.
