Get fab lunches in Palm Springs

Lunch is a perfect meal to try someplace new, and Restaurant Week makes it easy. You can grab a quick bite to scope out the menu or just nibble at a couple of dishes to get a feel for a new place overall. If you’re visiting for a few days, or you’re a local, these are a few places to try over the course of Restaurant Week.

The Mod Cafe is brand new to Palm Springs. Mod Café’s menu features organic, vegan, and gluten-free cuisine but also great lunch fare like burgers, Rubens and spinach lasagna. The owners of this new north Palm Canyon hot spot are the same folks that run Palm Greens just a little further south in the city.

Another newer spot for a trendy ‘see-and-be-seen’ lunch is Draughtsman at Arrive Palm Springs hotel. This airy restaurant often has all the walls pulled open to let in the breeze, so it’s like being in climate-controlled outdoor comfort.  There’s traditional fare but also some pretty unusual dishes like the Cuban Sandwich or the Bang Bang PB&J; never has roasted cashew butter, Thai bird chile strawberry jam, sliced cucumber, mint, and Thai basil gone together so well. Pair your meal with a great craft beer or sumptuous cocktail.

The Kitchen at the Hard Rock Hotel is also a cool spot to stop for lunch.  The room is stunning, and bright, but strolling into the hotel also allows you to browse the musical memorabilia before or after your meal. Try one or two of the creative sharing plates and don’t miss the strawberry cocktail.

For delectable sandwiches and a nice glass of special house wines, Kaiser Grille on Palm Canyon is a great place to stop. The prime rib sandwich is a house specialty and tender as can be.  There’s also an array of fresh meal-sized salads that can satisfy cravings for a cooler, lighter meal. www.kaisergrille.com/

A classic lunch spot that’s been around for nearly 30 years, Rick’s Desert Grill has breakfast or lunch options on the menu. From classics like BLTs to burgers and hot turkey sandwiches plus vegetarian and kids menu options, it’s a truly family friendly place that’s welcoming. www.ricksrestaurant.biz/
