Playing Together in Palm Springs

For parents who share a common love of golf with their kid – or kids, Palm Springs is a mecca for spending quality time together on the links! Three of the most highly rated – and shockingly affordable – public golf courses are located near the city center, just minutes away from the Palm Springs Airport and downtown shops, restaurants, and hotels. Listed below, they all offer daily fees, on-site dining, and tee time booking online. Each resort has its own personality and special features, though, so check out the list to see which best fits you and your budding golfer. For the optimal family golf experience, try playing 9 holes in the afternoon when there is a more relaxed pace of play on the fairway and inexpensive rates are available.

Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort is a recipient of top-ratings from Golf Digest and GolfNow.com. What makes this resort unique is the distinct style of each of its two championship courses, one a traditional country club style course and the other a desert landscape layout. For this caliber of golf, you can’t beat the price, either. Round of golf per person: $25-99/person in February (depending on tee time).

Indian Canyons Golf Resort
was voted “Best Public Course” by locals for the last 3 years in a row and has been featured in high-profile magazines, including Men’s Fitness magazine. With a decades-long legacy of cool, this resort has been around since 1961 and was a hangout of timeless celebrities, including Sinatra. Kids might be interested to know that Walt Disney owned property here and that its famous Disney fountain still shoots water over 100 feet in the air. Round of golf per person: $45-$115/person.

Escena Golf Club is the newest of these three facilities to hit the Palm Springs golf scene and has been featured in multiple, big-name publications for its hip, modern vibe. Ranked #6 Public Course in California by PGATOUR.com, Escena was created as an all-encompassing, quintessentially Palm Springs playground. From novice to expert, avid to non-golfer, residents and non-residents alike go to Escena for the complete leisure experience, which often includes a meal at Escena Lounge and Grill, their chic on-site restaurant. Round of golf: $63-$145.

Remember that the earlier you can book, the better. Now, pack your clubs and prepare to enjoy great weather, breathtaking landscapes, and the epitome of what it means to play in Palm Springs!
