Kid-Friendly Shopping in Downtown Palm Springs

Even during the warm summer days, strolling and browsing the downtown area of Palm Springs isn’t out of the question. There are plenty of air-conditioned, kid-friendly pit stops along the way to make it a pleasant outing. Here is a short list of kid magnets on “The Strip,” presented in roughly the way you’d find them while walking from south to north on Palm Canyon Drive.

Mr. G’s For Kids
It’s a toy story.  Need we say more?  From educational to purely entertaining, this shop towards the south end of downtown is the ultimate kids’ haven.  Open from 10am to 6pm Sunday through Wednesday, and until 10pm Thursday through Saturday.

“Forever Marilyn” Sculpture

This big lady, literally a 26 foot replica of Marilyn Monroe a la The Seven Year Itch, is guaranteed to catch the attention of your shorty.  Located at the intersection of Palm Canyon & Tahquitz Canyon Way in the heart of downtown, Seward Johnson’s sculpture is a great photo op. She is only here until mid-September...

Sonny Bono Statue
One block north of “Forever Marilyn,” this smiling bronze statue of Palm Springs’ former mayor in casual attire is another great photo op.  As Sonny sits at the edge of a beautiful fountain, kids can toss in coins and make a wish.  If they wish for a fun dinner, it just may come true since Ruby’s Diner is located a mere few feet away, where kids can eat free on Tuesday after 4pm.

See's Candy Shop
The popular, well-known chocolate confectioner is located directly across from the Sonny Bono statue and is open 10am to 6pm Friday through Wednesday, and until 9pm Thursday.

Desert Hatter
Dressing up is always fun.  Find a Viking helmet, or wizard’s cap, or something more functional to shade little faces from the summer sun.   Open every day from 9am to 11pm.

Cold Nose Warm Heart
This pet store is a great place to pick up a treat for a pet, or, if you don’t have a pet, scope out dog sculptures, doggie artwork, and little pet outfits and trinkets that’ll make you giggle.  Open daily from 10am to 9pm.

Palm Springs Fudge and Chocolates
You and your kids will be like, well, kids in a candy store.  This locally-owned candy shop has everything from homemade fudge to Jelly Bellies.  Open daily from 10am – 10pm.
