Whether your family visits Palm Springs for two days or four weeks, the Palm Springs Art Museum has a program to keep your little Pollock creating through the summer. For long-term vacationers, there’s Museum Art Camp, a month-long program running from June 25th through July 19th that introduces kids to a new art project on a weekly basis. For day trippers and weekenders, there’s the Summer Passport Program, available now through September 1st.
Museum Art Camp takes children on adventures around the museum and presents them with various hands-on projects in the hope that they will build a personal, tangible connection to the arts. Open to all children 3 to 12 years old, they’ll learn first hand from the real deal – museum educators and visiting artists - in air-conditioned art studios and galleries. Camp is Tuesday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm, June 25th through July 19th (the museum is closed on Mondays during the summer). The online brochure at the Palm Springs Art Museum website gives an exciting rundown of each of the age-appropriate activities planned. Registration is now being accepted online, over the phone, and at the museum.
The Summer Passport Program gives budding artists and art connoisseurs access to a whole new world of expression by providing them with their own passport, granting children 12 years and under free admission for themselves and an adult guest every time they visit the museum’s locations in Palm Springs and neighboring Palm Desert. Just like internationally-travelling grownups, their passport will be stamped upon arrival by the person at the admissions desk. Passports are available now at the museum’s Palm Springs location and are valid for use through September 1st, 2013. The Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert, CA, also known as The Galen, will reopen and begin distributing and taking Summer Passports on June 22nd.
